·      What question about the reading for today did I prepare before class?

o   What were the main identified behaviors?

·      What key ideas did I hear in seminar today?

o   Identified behaviors that reflected dominance: denying food to others, bullying, and staring down competitors. Cringing, running away, or remaining passive under aggression reflected submission.

o   Observed sexual behavior went on almost constantly between both heterosexual and homosexual pairs and from a variety of physical positions

o   He placed similar sized monkeys together in a single small chamber and tossed in food treats.

o   He then observed and classified the monkey’s behavior according to his previously established criteria for sexuality and dominance

o   First introduced to peak experiences by Wertheimer. These are strong feelings of joy and other positive emotions that often accompany those aha moments, when the world is perceived in a new and appreciative way.
Introduced to the term “self-actualization” from Goldstein, though it held a different meaning for Goldstein. Goldstein referred to the tendency to maintain integrity and wholeness in the face of injury as a motive towards
achieving “self-actualization”

·      What substantive ideas or comments did I contribute in seminar today?

o   Active Listening

·      What did I learn today that contributed to my understanding of psychology?

o   Wrote Patterns of Culture, which promoted a less technical and restricted use of the word culture, much like how the word personality became less restricted and technical. This book also mentioned three ethnic groups that promoted distinctively different styles of culture
